We have good news for the Christ Lutheran congregation!  On Sunday, April 2, we will be honored to have President Matthew Harrison preach the sermon at CLC.  The Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison is the 13th man to serve as President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) since its founding in 1847.  He was re-elected President last year for his second term.

After the worship service on April 2, we will offer a full breakfast honoring President Harrison and his wife Kathy.  He is a professional banjo player and will play some songs for us. Please join us!

Charger Alert!

If you are lucky enough in this life, you get a great coach.  For the last 8 years, both boys and girls at Christ Lutheran have had an opportunity to have been this lucky.  If they played soccer, they have had Coach Maurizio Colaruotolo. He is one of those great coaches.

It is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to our beloved soccer coach this year.  Maurizio has guided our kids through many seasons of CLS soccer.  Always passionate, enthusiastic and a great strategist, he has been a coach that has brought out the most in each player.

More than anything Maurizio taught our young players what it was to push themselves, to show mercy, build character, and to be excellent sportsmen and sportswomen.  Whether winning, losing, or tying a soccer match Maurizio led CLS players demonstrate the highest standards.  Our behavior on the soccer field spoke volumes to the opposing teams, coaches, and parents.  CLS kids are impeccable in their manners and playing.  This is because of great coaching, teaching, and demonstrating strong character.

In this last season when we were down and out about not having a field, Maurizio found us a local field to practice on and Field of Dreams to host our games.  Not deterred about circumstances, our girls learned incredible life lessons in grit, resilience, and determination.  They learned how to be resourceful.
Maurizio, you will be so missed.  We are so grateful to you.  It has been an honor and pleasure to work with you.  We wish you huge success in your next coaching endeavors and hope you will stop by to give a few more passionate and motivational speeches for our next year’s team!

What's Happening Week of 3.13.17

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.  But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:13-16

Mr. & Mrs. Daniel and Shirley Ronnholm (one of our CLCS school families) made the wonderful decision to have their children/CLS students baptized. It was a very special time for all who participated.

Principal Dennis Jacobson, presided over the baptism. Kyle William Ronnholm and Amber Ann Ronnholm were baptized on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Congratulations! We rejoice in your decision to place your children in God’s loving arms thru the precious waters of Holy Baptism.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23

What's Happening Week of 3.6.17

Hello Christ Lutheran Families,

The Internet – what a wonderful tool! We all use it every day, and so do our students. Doing research for school reports, communicating with teachers, playing interactive educational games, and learning how to do a math problem online are just a few examples. What a great resource for learning!

However, just as we all need to watch out for our safety in life, it is so important that our children are taught how to watch out for their safety online. We at CLS discuss this topic regularly, but I dedicate two or three class periods for each grade level specifically to this subject during the month of February, which is Internet Safety Month.

Your children have been engaging in a resource called The NetSmartz workshop, which is an interactive, educational program established by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It provides age-appropriate activities for children ages 5 – 17. With videos, games, activity cards and presentations, your children are learning how to make safe choices online, how to stay away from online predators, being ethical, and the consequences of bad choices. I stress that we have the responsibility as a child of God to show faith-filled digital citizenship.

It is very important to be aware of what your child does on the Internet when not at school. What they post, who they chat with, and what they share about themselves are some things you should monitor. Please look for some handouts (via email in grades 6-8) about what you as a parent can do to help protect your kids. By talking to them about potential online dangers and monitoring computer and phone use, you’ll help them surf the Internet safely.

Remember, your kids’ best online protection is you! Stay Safe!

Blessings in Christ,

Susan Woeste
Computer Teacher

"The heart of man plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9

This verse came to my mind this week as we had to make the difficult decision to change the date of our annual Jog-A-Thon due to weather concerns. We all love having our calendars and having a plan! We regret any inconvenience we may have caused by the date change--we understand the importance of sticking to the published calendar dates.

However, the weather reports for next week indicate rain on Sunday and Monday and we had concerns that the track would not be in good condition by March 3rd. The weather reports for the week of March 5th indicate NO rain in the days leading up to the NEW Jog-A-Thon date of March 10th. Those of you that were around last year may recall we had to cancel the Jog-A-Thon the day of due to inclement weather. We were really trying to avoid having to do that again this year--thus the date change.

Date changes aside, our team is working hard to have a wonderful event. The funds raised will go towards new water dispensers/water fountains and new tether balls/balls for the playground as well as towards PTL sponsored activities such as Art To Grow On, Walk Thru California, Walk Thru the American Revolution, and of course the Country Fair! We still need volunteers on the day of the event to make it a success--counting laps, giving out water--these are just a couple of ways you can help out!

Students that raise $250 or more will be able to choose among various awesome donated prizes we have gotten from the community: tickets to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, K1 Speedway, Mulligan's, LaserStorm, Gablehouse Bowl and PV Bowl, Dodger Game, Benihanas, and Open Gym Nights at South Bay Cheer 360 are just some of the awesome prizes the students will get to choose from.

There are fun incentives for those students that raise less than $250 as well--be sure to check out the Jog-A-Thon packets that were sent home Wednesday.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Amy Paulsen ( or myself (

Hello Christ Lutheran Family-

Christ Lutheran is fast becoming the next step for homeschooling families. This year we welcomed six previously homeschooled students and will welcome a handful more in the new school-year. With our small class sizes and teachers who take a personal interest in each student, we are a great transitional option for homeschooling families to move into a more traditional school setting.

We received this feedback from a homeschooling family who attended our open house last month and will be joining us in September:
“The opportunities that Christ Lutheran provides would be an awesome
experience for (our daughter)!  When I saw the science projects, the computer lab, library, small class sizes, and athletic opportunities, I was completely sucked in!  Also, the 7th grade class representative, did an amazing job giving the tour and articulating all the great details of the school.  She's a big part of the reason we are so sold on your school.  Please make sure she knows that.
Your staff really seems to have a true heart for teaching and nurturing the kids. We met Mrs. McKenzie, Mrs. Kim, Miss Noch, Miss Susie in the library, and the enthusiastic teacher in the computer lab- we loved all of them!”
Do you know a homeschool family who may be interested in our school? Refer them and receive a month of FREE tuition!

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear,
and this burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

Wow . . . it has been quite a year already and it is only February, 2017! Many of you are aware that the CLCS field was redone. Bennett Landscaping will be out on Monday, February 13, 2017 to take a look at the field and hopefully deem it ready for use.
CLCS is also looking at putting ground cover on the two small hills just below the black top. The ground cover will provide additional support to the hills and be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

The rainy season has come and shows very little signs of leaving. Our facility has suffered water damage to several spaces on campus. The good news is all spaces have been sanitized, any water - damaged items have been removed and our insurance company is working closely with us to repair and improve all affected areas. We ask for your prayers as we move through this process.

There are many items on our CLCS TO DO list! Shortly CLCS will be asking for all dads to come out for a work party day! We will let you know the date once it has been set.

God’s Blessings,

Philomena Howard
Office Manager

What's Happening Week of 2.6.17

Greetings Christ Lutheran Family-

The floods came, but we remain on the firm foundation of Christ! It was wonderful to share this message with our grandparents last week at our annual Grandparents Day and with our students during National Lutheran Schools Week. We had fun with our theme dress days that help to remind us to stand firm on the solid rock!

Such a timely message for Mrs. Ford and her 3rd graders, as the heavy downpour flooded the classroom. We are so grateful for the parents and staff who came over the weekend to help relocate the 3rd grade classroom from the main level to the top floor. It was a lot of work carrying all those boxes upstairs. We couldn’t have down it without the help of the wonderful parents who are always willing to jump in and help.
We so appreciate our parent volunteers who helped with Grandparents Day, Open House, PTL events and in the classrooms. We couldn’t do it without you!

Thank you for standing firm with us as we continue to trust in the Lord each and every day here at Christ Lutheran Church and School!

In His Service,
Samantha Fulton, Admissions Director

What's Happening Week of 1.30.17

In the past couple of years, Christ Lutheran Church & School has had the opportunity to invite and host international students to study at our school for short term periods. International students, with their diverse backgrounds, enrich the student body of CLCS, and help our school community to develop a wider global perspective. As part of our global focus, Christ Lutheran School & Church has been blessed with the opportunity to minister to six Chinese exchange students from January 23- February 19.

The following students are visiting us from Shenyang, China: Jacky, Lloyd, Doris (7th), Nancy, Alex, David (8th). These students started yesterday, and they are making a smooth transition into our classes. We are so excited and blessed to have them on our campus.

God's Peace,

So Jung Kim

What's Happening Week of 1.23.17

Next week Christ Lutheran joins over 2,000 Lutheran Schools throughout the country to celebrate "National Lutheran Schools Week." President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison of The Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod kicks-off NLSW with this prayer:
  2017 National Lutheran Schools Week
Whereas, Scripture exhorts and reminds us to "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock" (Is. 26:4); and
Whereas, All Lutheran education finds its beginning and its end in that same Rock, Jesus Christ; and
Whereas, This unique educational model, grounded in Christ, is and will be even more needed and important in a culture that increasingly leads children and young adults toward chaos and confusion, rather than toward the order and peace that come from Him; and
Whereas, Lutheran education directs young people to their heavenly Father, Who loves them on account of Christ, while simultaneously offering them thorough instruction in how to discern the world around them through a distinctly Lutheran lens; and
Whereas, The Lord has seen fit to bless schools and children with teachers, pastors and church workers who encourage and assist students to think broadly and boldly, both academically and theologically, for the students’ benefit as well as for the sake of the world and the Church; and
Whereas, Finding their mutual foundation in the Rock, teacher, student and parent learn together to make a faithful confession of Christ, while also discovering the joy inherent in His gifts of science and math, English and history, art and music through rigorous scholastic study; and
Whereas, Teaching and learning – being both a thinking and speaking student of Christ’s Word as well as of academia – remains an LCMS mission priority, with Lutheran educators who continue to ground children in the Rock while encouraging them to be lifelong learners; therefore, be it
Resolved, That Jan. 22-28, 2017 be officially proclaimed as National Lutheran Schools Week in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, in the name of the Father and of the
+ Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison
President, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
