Meet Our New Teachers

Hello Christ Lutheran Families!

My name is Eve Hopkins and I am excited to return to Christ Lutheran as the new 2nd grade teacher. For the past 4 years I have served at Ascension Lutheran School as the kindergarten teacher. I also taught 5th-8th grade art as well as 5th grade history. Prior to Ascension, I served right here at Christ Lutheran for 5 years as SAC Director. In the past 9 years I have directed numerous school musicals and helped start the family fun nights and talent show here at Christ Lutheran.

I graduated from California State University Dominguez Hills with a double degree in Theater, Performance and Technical. I love using movement and creativity to connect today’s student with all parts of the curriculum.

I am a wife and mother of 3 girls. I have been married to my husband Steve for 23 years. He is also a teacher for LAUSD where he teaches middle school math. Our girls all attended Christ Lutheran when they were younger. Savannah (19) works here in the preschool as an aide, Serena (16) goes to West High in Torrance and Sadie (13) will be in 8th grade at Jefferson Middle school in Torrance. When not at work you will find me at the softball field watching my girls play, every weekend, year round, weekdays too. It’s a lot of softball!! I look forward to an amazing school year and reconnecting with the Christ Lutheran family!!

Greetings Christ Lutheran! My name is Erika Castillo, and I am so excited to join your amazing team as the new 4th grade teacher. I am so incredibly passionate about being a teacher, and know that I have found my place in teaching elementary age students. I have been praying ceaselessly during my job hunt, and so many times The Lord confirmed that He has me at CLS this year to be blessed and be a blessing to others. I am looking forward to meeting my students and will be praying over them each day leading up to the first day of school. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching from WGU this year, and completed my student teaching in Palos Verdes at Silver Spur Elementary. My education and experience has given me the confidence and practice be prepared for this year. I am excited about teaching the fourth grade material, and my background is in nutrition, so I hope to incorporate some of that into the curriculum for the year as well. I will be getting married on July 26th to my fiancé, Matthew McFarland. We will be honeymooning in Kauai, and I am bringing along with me plenty of "first year teacher" survival guides for some light reading. I will be returning as Mrs. McFarland for the school year. Overjoyed to work with each of you, I know it is going to be an unforgettable and amazing year.

All the best,
Erika Castillo
